Welcome to the virtual home of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. We are a loving, active, and faith-filled community made possible by God's grace and the energy and commitment of our members. We rejoice in all those who come to St. Paul's for worship, spiritual growth and service, whether as visitors, friends, or members.

Our church takes its name from St. Paul, who heard the word of God and was transformed, becoming Christ's apostle and preaching the Word. Like Paul, we believe the great mission of the Church is to make disciples, followers of the Risen Lord. We seek to do this through:

  • Worship that touches hearts and minds through word and sacrament for the sake of the kingdom;
  • Formation that encourages, develops, and supports disciples for ministry in the world;
  • Service that flows from a clear mission, identifying core ministries in the service of God's people; and
  • Stewardship, which means contributing to the work of the Church out of a sense of thanksgiving and caring for the resources with which we have been entrusted.

We are a parish of over 2,000 baptized people, blessed with a beautiful house of worship and a powerful sense of our calling to “shine as a light in the world to the glory of God.”  The architectural signature of our church building – the soaring arches of the facade that are repeated throughout the interior design – signify to us a transcendent and holy God and an openness to the world.  If you are being called to explore, deepen and live out your Christian faith as part of the Church, we hope you will find here an open door that draws you in, with all the unique gifts that you bring, and encouragement then to take those gifts into the world to provide for others in the name of Christ.

Our parish magazine, The Epistle, is published three times per year and includes parish news, information on parish activities and programs, articles highlighting the service of church members and clergy, descriptions of special worship services, and other items of interest to the St. Paul's and Episcopal community.

Directions to St. Paul's
St. Paul's Church is located at 228 South Pitt Street in Old Town Alexandria. The church and parish buildings sit on the corner of Pitt and Duke streets. Coming down King Street toward the river, turn right onto South Pitt Street and walk approximately one and a half blocks toward Duke Street. The church will be on your left. There is a free trolley that runs up and down King Street between the metro station and the river seven days a week.
