On Sunday we will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Virginia Theological Seminary, which took place in our very own chapel. Festivities will go on throughout the morning. You can find more details below.

We are no longer taking RSVPs for lunch but will have plenty of food- please feel free to join us if you are able!

Sunday will be a day of celebration as we mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Virginia Theological Seminary and celebrate the launch of Rebuilding Zion, written by the Rev. Oran E. Warder about the Rev. William H. Wilmer. Books and notecards will be on sale in the lobby of Norton Hall all morning.

10:00 AM – The Dyer/Horne Lecture
The Rev. Judy Fentress-Williams, Ph.D. will deliver the Dyer/ Horne lecture entitled: ā€œGenerations: Genealogy as Story in Genesisā€. Judy Fentress-Williams is in bi-vocational ministry in Alexandria, VA as the Dodge Professor of Biblical Interpretation at Virginia Theological Seminary and the Senior Assistant to the Pastor for Teaching and Preaching at the Alfred Street Baptist Church. Her fields of expertise include Hebrew Bible, dialogic interpretation, religious studies, Afro-American studies, and literary criticism.

11:00 AM Holy Eucharist Rite II
The Rev. Ian Markham, Dean and President at Virginia Theological Seminary, will preach and the service will include liturgy to commemorate the role of St. Paul’s in the founding of VTS.

12:00 PM Book Launch
Rebuilding Zion: William Holland Wilmer and the Rebirth of the Episcopal Church in Virginia, 1782 – 1827
Immediately following the 11am service stay in the church for the launch of Rev. Oran Warder’s new book, Rebuilding Zion. Rev. Warder will talk briefly about the book

12:30 PM Lunch in the Courtyard
Fried chicken lunch in Upper Norton Hall. Books and commemorative notecards will be on sale.
