Worship Ministries

Serving God in His Church

Since becoming an acolyte, and especially an acolyte mentor, I have a much greater respect for and understanding of St. Paul's and the service. It truly feels like I am a part of something very special and powerful.

St. Paul's seeks worship that touches the heart and mind through Word and sacrament for the sake of the Kingdom. Parishioners are invited to join us in our worship services by participating in any of our worship ministries. For more information about individual ministries, please feel free to contact the person indicated below.

During the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. services, acolytes (5th through 12th-graders) carry the candles (torchbearer) or the cross (crucifer) in the procession while older youth assist the clergy in setting the Eucharistic table. Adult acolytes serve as crucifer and server at the 7:45 a.m. service.

Altar Guild

The St. Paul's Altar Guild works to prepare the altar for worship services, including baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals. The altar guild is also responsible for the care of vestments, altar hangings, linens, candles, silver/brass, and flowers. Altar Guild members are grouped into teams that serve for a two-week period approximately six times per year. Contacts for the Altar Guild are Catherine and Wesley Schmidt at

  • Anyone may donate altar flowers to honor a loved one, celebrate a birth, baptism, confirmation or mark other special occasions. Learn more about this special Altar Guild program or schedule a donation by contacting Jane Cole at 703 780-0204 or via email.
Chalice Bearers

Chalice bearers, also referred to as lay eucharistic ministers, are licensed by the Bishop, administer the chalice on Sundays, and are commissioned to take consecrated communion to parishioners who are unable to attend regular worship services. The contact for chalice bearers is Heidi Schneble. She can be reached at (571) 312-0066 (home) or (703) 328-9948 (cell).

Intercessors read the Prayers of the People at the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. services.

Lectors assist in the worship services by reading the appointed lessons.
